Junior, Secondary English Education major from Stow, Ohio
Having known several RC alumni through her hometown church, Olivia was drawn to the stories she heard about the close community at this small Christian college in metro Detroit; she too was looking for a place to call home. Now in her junior year at RC, the secondary education major from Stow, Ohio says she has found that place, and she’s proud to be a part of RC’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for academic, social and spiritual explorations.
As a participant and leader in RC’s residence life staff, Honors Council, Student Government, Sigma Phi Delta Nu social club, Campus Ministry team and GEO program (not to mention her involvement in various ministries at Rochester Church of Christ), Olivia is certainly an integral part of what makes RC distinct.
Fellowship is fundamental to fostering community, and highly involved students such as Olivia are vital to RC’s spirit of community. The college’s recent Ice Cream Olympics and Homecoming festivities remind Olivia of the positive impact a large gathering space, such as a new gym, would have on our community.
“Seeing alumni and current students come together, get to know one another and share who we are with some of the businesses in the greater Rochester community is a really neat thing to be a part of,” she says.
“The new gym would facilitate more events like this, and this would be very beneficial to the spirit of our campus community. We need a place to rally together, support one another and bond during these powerful fellowship experiences.”
